Children play at the Save the Children "Rainbow Kindergarten".

Save the Children launched âRainbow Kindergartenâ, the first pre-school in Zaatari Refugee Camp in December 2012. The site consists of four fully furnished winterized tents, one playground and latrines. The pre-school is accessible to more than 1000 Syrian children between the ages of three and five per week. Early childhood is a critical stage in a childâs development, where they obtain the very basic social and cognitive skills, and offering education at that early age creates a solid base for the childâs development. Along with ensuring a safe learning environment in the camp, Rainbow Kindergarten provides drinking water and a nutritious snack to its preschoolers. The kindergarten is managed by Jordanian teachers and Syrian volunteers, who will implement the Ministry of Educationâs national interactive curriculum for kindergartens.

Za'atari in Jordan is home to an estimated 80,000 people, making it the largest refugee camp for Syrians in the world. More than half of all Syrian refugees in Jordan are children under 18. As well as the camps Syrian refugees are also living in host communities, and numbers of arrivals are increasing daily as hundreds of people cross the border from Syria. Save the Children is coordinating with UN agencies, governmental bodies, INGOs and local partners in Jordan to better respond to the needs of Syrian children.

Our response aims at improving the quality of education, protection and nutritional status for Syrian children and ensuring that they have access to protective and developmentally appropriate education that is relevant to their present, as well as future circumstances.
